CAD Model Validation
Legacy information is something that almost every company has to deal with as technology progresses. In order to aid manufacturing using today’s Technologies a CAD model is often created using the engineering  drawing as a reference. This process can yield a CAD model that is usable for creating tooling and programming all types of machining operations. This flaw in this approach is that it does not consider what has been being produced for years as part of the baseline. Often in a product lifecycle the actual product is not a direct  representation of the design.

Using  SmartValidate Level 3 Inspection can combine White Light Scanning (WLS) with computer-aided-inspection (CAI) to compare the average of some sampling of parts-already-produced to the engineering drawing generated CAD model in order to show areas of discontinuity, for this comparison,  intelligent assumptions can be made about how to best define the product.

This technology gives our customers a new and profound insight into the actual geometry
of the hardware currently being produced from the legacy data. Level 3 can help their
customers identify areas of concern and design variation and bring better parts to market,
faster than ever before. The ability to quickly view the as produced average compared to
the nominal CAD model for legacy data gives Level 3 Inspection’s customers a big advantage
in regard to quality and time to market.
